Traditional Receptions

All of our packages include 4 parts:

Cocktail Hour

Included in our rates is a 4 piece jazz quartet of 2 horns, guitar, & upright bass for cocktail hour.  This ensemble will play soft background music in the lobby/ cocktail area of your venue while guests mingle.

Dinner Hour

For dinner hour our 4 piece jazz quartet seamlessly moves into the main reception hall and performs background music while your guests enjoy dinner.  Our musicians are trained to be sensitive to guests who are sitting directly in front of the band.  Usually the quartet performs until toasts begin at which time the quartet joins the full 9-18 piece St. Louis Big Band on stage.

Dancing - Live

After toasts are over it is time for your first dance!  Guests are stunned by the sound of the 18 piece St. Louis Big Band performing the song that you have selected.  After the first dance comes the father/bride dance and the then the mother/groom dance each of which can be fully customized.

After special dances are over the formalities of the night are over and it is time to party!  For the next 2-3 hours the band determines the next song by taking into consideration your requests, the dance floor reaction, and audience reaction to create a night of fun-filled & unforgettable music that is unique to your event.  Many of the band's songs feature the beautiful sounds of Sinatra style vocalist Joe Scalzitti.  We are always happy to have talented guests from your event sit-in with the band.  It's not unusual for our horn section to join the audience on the dance floor while performing!

Dancing - DJ

When the band finishes their last number our in-house professional DJ service hits play.  The DJ plays your requests, handles last calls, final dances and the night comes to a close.  Our DJ service will typically perform for 1-2 hours after the band has finished.

East-Coast Style Receptions

We never charge extra for east-coast style receptions.

Cocktail Hour

Included in our rate is a 4 piece jazz quartet of 2 horns, guitar, & upright bass for cocktail hour.  This ensemble will play soft background music in the lobby/ cocktail area of your venue while guests mingle.

Dinner Hour

First Part:  With an east-coast style event dinner hour kicks-off with the first dance, father/daughter dance, & mother/son dance performed by the full St. Louis Big Band.  Everyone is invited to come to the dance floor for one dance before salads are served.  While guests are eating salad our quartet performs soft background music.

Second Part:  While guests are waiting for the main course they are invited to the dance floor for 2-5 dances. As soon as the main course is ready the band ends the song and guests are asked to please be seated.

Dancing - Live

Open dancing starts immediately after dinner.  At this time the band usually performs for 2 hours.

Dancing - DJ

When the band finishes their last number our in-house professional DJ service hits play.  The DJ plays your requests, handles last calls, final dances and the night comes to a close.  Our DJ service will typically perform for 1-2 hours after the band has finished.

About our Reception Services:

We charge by the event, not by the hour.  This allows us to go with the flow of your event and for overtime charges to be 100% avoided.    Music for all of the following are included in our reception performance rates: (1.) cocktail hour, (2.) dinner hour, (3.) Dancing by Live Music and (4.) Dancing by DJ.  If there are any unique parts to your reception that need to be covered by live music, most of the time we are able to do so at no additional charge.

For example:  Have some members of the band go onto the roof at the end of the reception to perform background music as guests watch fireworks. (True story!)

Our rates are based on 2 factors: the size of the band that you select and the demand for your date.  A quartet for dinner and cocktail hour is always included free of charge.

Size of the Band:  We offer 18, 12, & 9 piece band configurations.  The full 18 piece band is our most booked option followed closely by our 9 piece configuration.  Our 9 piece band is perfect for tighter spaces.  Our repertoire selections are only slightly limited by the ensemble size & most songs can be performed by all size configurations.  Below is the exact instrumentation of each of our ensemble sizes.  Click HERE for a link to our repertoire list.
